Igor Legari Releases Jazz Album 'Arbo' with Cover Art by Giulia Napoleone

publication · 2026-04-27

Bassist Igor Legari has released a new jazz album titled 'Arbo' (meaning 'tree' in Esperanto) on Folderol Records. The trio includes Marco Colonna on winds and Ermanno Baron on drums. The nine-track concept album draws inspiration from Esperanto, a constructed language invented to break down linguistic barriers. The music is described as dreamy yet dissonant, unsettling, and never fully reassuring. Each track carries symbolic references: 'Ocelot' evokes the Central American feline with Andean sounds; 'Malachi' is dedicated to Malachi Favors Maghostut of the Art Ensemble of Chicago; other pieces reference the Salento seaside town of Roca and the mythical island Ultima Thule. The album cover features an original watercolor by 86-year-old artist Giulia Napoleone, who was born in Pescara in 1936. Napoleone, a lifelong jazz enthusiast and subscriber to 'Musica Jazz' magazine, created the artwork after being moved by Legari's music. She met Legari in April at her home-studio in Tuscia Viterbese, where they discovered a shared passion for jazz and the starry sky. The album is available at folderol.it.
