Igor Grubić's 50 Micro-Interventions Transform Naples' Villa Comunale

On May 29, 2021, Croatian artist Igor Grubić (b. 1969, Zagreb) staged his first major public intervention in Naples at the Villa Comunale, titled "Another Green World." The project, curated by Adriana Rispoli and organized with Fondazione Morra, the Assessorato alla Cultura, and the Assessorato al Verde of the Comune di Napoli, involved 50 micro-interventions across the park's statues, fountains, and neoclassical architecture. Signs and banners displayed phrases like "Another green world is possible," "Don't eat art from the plate of illusions," "The only revolution is the spiritual evolution," "Defence of nature," and "Defence of poetry," drawn from texts by Gramsci, Beuys, Brecht, and Mayakovsky. The installation coincided with a Dante-themed performance aimed at awakening collective consciousness about public green spaces. Neapolitan artist Roberto Pugliese contributed a sound composition, "Another Green World is Possible," downloadable via smartphone, and students from the Laboratorio di Linguaggio Creativo at Scuola Media Poerio created a storytelling component. Grubić emphasized that public gardens are essential for sustainable community development, especially during the pandemic, and described the garden as a "museum without walls."
