Iginio De Luca's 'Expatrie' at Casa dell'Architettura, Rome
Iginio De Luca (Formia, 1966) presents 'Expatrie' at Casa dell'Architettura in Rome until July 28, 2016. Using opaque polyester sheets, De Luca veils the bodies, faces, and expectations of marginalized people living in the abandoned Metropoliz area of Rome. Acting as a contemporary anthropologist, he investigates, classifies, and measures skeletal living spaces, recomposing fragile floor plans on vitreous paper and allowing minimal photographic details to emerge. The exhibition questions the anthropological concept of dwelling. De Luca converses with inhabitants, analyzes their movements, moods, hesitations, and dreams, imagining additional desired spaces that he transcribes as symbolic ribs of a never-born body. The dilated atmospheres evoke the peripheries in Ferzan Ozpetek's films, freezing complex narratives of waiting and hope. Curated by Giorgio de Finis.
