Iginio De Luca performs under a bed at Gecko Fest

festival-fair · 2026-04-27

On September 10, 2022, artist Iginio De Luca performed "Zì Nicola" in the medieval village of Castello di Spina, Umbria, as part of the third edition of Gecko Fest. The performance featured a bed placed in the village square, which De Luca used as a musical instrument by hiding underneath and playing its slats. The work was inspired by Eduardo De Filippo's character Zì Nicola from "Le Voci di Dentro," who communicates through coded mortar explosions. Curated by Sauro Cardinali, the festival focused on humanity's relationship with the planet, emphasizing listening and observation refined during isolation. De Luca's invisible hands produced sounds from wood, plastic, and iron, evoking unconscious, sleep, and dream states.
