Iginio De Luca Pastes WhatsApp Chats Across Rome as Poetic Urban Action

artist · 2026-04-27

On December 22, 2020, from dawn to dusk, Italian artist Iginio De Luca (born in Formia, 1966) pasted screenshots of his WhatsApp conversations with curator Claudio Libero Pisano across the streets of Rome, in an urban poetic action titled "Sta scrivendo…" ("Typing…"). The images, still visible around the capital, reproduce the chat exchanges between De Luca and Pisano during the preparation of a 2017 exhibition at AlbumArte. The work aims to reveal the behind-the-scenes dialogue between artist and curator—fragmented, ungrammatical, but genuine—that precedes a finished artwork. Pisano notes that the relationship between curator and artist is rarely discussed, and that the banality of chat conversations becomes a vehicle to understand what binds them. The posters, displaying fragments of thoughts and words, place artist and curator back into the world of imperfect humans. A map of the poster locations is available online.
