Iginio De Luca: Blitz Artist and Multimedia Pioneer

artist · 2026-05-04

Iginio De Luca, born in Formia on August 21, 1966, and based between Rome and Turin, was the guest of the first seasonal appointment of I Martedì Critici. He teaches Decoration and Multimedia Installations at the Accademia delle Belle Arti di Frosinone. De Luca is a multifaceted artist—musician, visual artist, video maker, installation artist, and performer. In recent years, his poetics have focused on video, photographic images, and what he calls "blitz": actions straddling urban art and performance, executed by flying over areas with airplanes, projecting images or writings on buildings in rapid night raids, or arriving in places with disturbing and visually impactful elements like fake electoral billboards. Blending ethics and aesthetics, technology and behavioral actions, De Luca demands interaction with the environment and the public, denouncing the crisis of values of our time with irony and commitment. His use of multiple linguistic registers has always characterized his projects, aiming to dismantle certainties and break codes of expressive formalization to set a trap for reality. The public is called to actively decode the web the artist weaves, constructing funambolic balances between signs of different nature. Despite working across many fields, a unity of concept qualifies De Luca as one of the most original artists on the current Italian scene.
