IFP Retrospective at Mamco Geneva

exhibition · 2026-04-23

The Mamco in Geneva presents 'L'Épreuve du jour', the first retrospective dedicated to IFP (Information Fiction Publicité), an agency founded by Jean-François Brun, Dominique Pasqualini, and Philippe Thomas, active from 1984 to 1994. The exhibition features about thirty works, mostly created after Philippe Thomas left in spring 1985, including light boxes with cloudy skies, devices using Paris metro folding seats, and large flat images like tarpaulins and billboards on wheels. The 'Plot' consists of a small circular cement base with a rotating enameled plaque stamped with the IFP logo. The show highlights how IFP anticipated art's conditions from the 1980s onward, addressing copyright, networks, production, excess of signs, artistic value, exchange value, subject, globalization, self-referentiality, and art's permeability.
