IFFR 2019: Rotterdam Film Festival Blends Cinema and Art

The 48th International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) is scheduled from January 23 to February 3, 2019. Established in 1972 by Huub Bals, the festival emphasizes non-commercial films from developing nations and the Far East, presenting over 500 films from more than 50 countries. Support for productions is provided through the Hubert Bals Fund and CineMart, while the Rotterdam Lab offers workshops aimed at emerging filmmakers. The Ammodo Tiger Short Competition, taking place from January 24 to 28, features 24 films, each under 65 minutes. Notable artists include Korakrit Arunanondchai and Heather Phillipson. Collaborations with Kunsthal Rotterdam and Het Nieuwe Instituut will present temporary exhibitions and performances. Philippe Parreno will showcase 'No more reality' at Pathé Schouwburgplein, and a retrospective of Charlotte Pryce will be held at WORM from January 24 to 27.
