IED Roma holds outdoor classes in iconic Roman locations post-COVID
From June 23 to 26, 2020, IED Roma (Istituto Europeo di Design) held its first outdoor classes in historic Roman settings including Ponte Sant'Angelo, Parco degli Acquedotti, and Piazza del Campidoglio. The initiative, titled 'La città insegna' (The City Teaches), involved five open-air sessions that allowed students to meet and interact after months of remote learning while respecting safety measures. Laura Negrini, Director of IED Roma, stated that education can happen anywhere with a free outlook. Activities included a fashion shoot at Parco degli Acquedotti by Fashion Stylist and Editor students, a Graphic Design lesson at the Orto botanico studying natural forms and proportions, a session at Piazza del Campidoglio designing ideal spaces for interaction despite social distancing, a Historyboard lesson using the Colonna Traiana as inspiration for a storyboard, and a semiotic analysis of Ponte Sant'Angelo through its statues. The program transformed safety constraints into new educational opportunities.
