IED Roma Design Awards 2020 Winners Announced Online

award · 2026-04-27

The IED Roma Design Awards 2020, organized by the Istituto Europeo di Design, announced its winners in an online ceremony due to the pandemic. Laura Negrini, director of IED Roma and creator of the award, encouraged students to navigate the market freely and respond to unpredictable professional events. Eight projects were selected from 23 finalists, involving 64 student candidates and 36 professionals including teachers, partners, and the scientific committee. Categories ranged from visual arts to communication, design, fashion, master's, special projects, and interdisciplinary projects. Winners included Andrea Buttarelli and Gianluca D’Ottavio for visual arts with an app project for the Parco Archeologico del Colosseo; Ilaria Ruben for a new edition of Jules Verne's 'Around the World in 80 Days' with Morellini Editore; Mauro Conte, Adriana Pistolese, and Beatrice Saverino for an ATAC transport campaign; Carola Aureli and Beatrice Fiorentini for accessible housing at Centro Sant’Alessio; Linda Giacalone for a Queer jewelry collection; Tommaso Paoles for a virtual reality fashion project; Davide D’Agostino for a new logo for women's football with FICG; and a team of 15 students for Enel X electric vehicle charging stations. Implementation timelines vary: the FICG logo will be used in the upcoming football season, the Verne book will be printed in 2021, and the Colosseum project will launch next year, while ATAC and Enel X projects require more time.
