IED Florence Launches New Master in Museum Education

IED Florence will launch a new Master in Museum Education in November 2024. The one-year program, taught entirely in English, aims to train professionals capable of designing inclusive and participatory narrative paths between artworks, audiences, and diverse communities. The course provides theoretical foundations and technical skills through lectures by industry professionals. This is the third master's profile offered by IED for cultural professionals, alongside existing programs in Arts Management and Curatorial Practice. Daria Filardo, academic coordinator of the Art department at IED Florence and co-founder of Counter-Production in Palermo, emphasized that the city of Florence and Italian museum heritage offer opportunities to conceive new narratives for understanding the past and producing future knowledge. The Museum Educator figure is central to developing awareness of material and immaterial visual heritage and to making museums accessible, open to differences, and active in community life.
