IED Factory Students Imagine Rome in 50 Years at MAXXI

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) presents 'Roma tra 50 anni' at MAXXI in Rome, a group exhibition featuring 15 projects by 400 second-year students from all IED departments. Curated by notable figures including Ilaria Magliocchetti Lombi, Christian Raimo, photographer Alessandro Imbriaco, Massimo Siragusa, Giorgio Noto, Robocoop, Muna Mussie, Moira Ricci, architect Carmelo Baglivo, Alessio Pellicoro, Viola Pantano, Valentina Vannicola, Luca Capuano, Daniele Villa Zorn, Gilles Raynaldy, and Luis Do Rosario, the works explore Rome's future through photography, collage, video, and performance. The exhibition celebrates IED Rome's 50th anniversary and opened with a lecture by writer Nicola Lagioia. Director Laura Negrini stated the project amplifies Rome's core values like green spaces and multiculturalism, avoiding sci-fi fantasies. Additionally, IED announced a collaboration with British artist Lucy Orta for Pitti Immagine Uomo 104 in Florence (June 13-16, 2023), where students will create an installation on 'Transition' at the Istituto degli Innocenti, incorporating AI-designed garments and self-growing textiles. The final work will be unveiled on June 14.
