IED Como Launches New Degree in Contemporary Arts

The Accademia di Belle Arti Aldo Galli (IED Como) has introduced a new MIUR-recognized degree program, the Scuola delle Arti Contemporanee, presented during the Streetscape project inauguration. The course aims to train artists, curators, event organizers, press officers, and artistic directors, focusing on contemporary art history, economic systems, and cultural relations. CEO Salvatore Amura stated the program evolved from traditional visual arts to meet a transformed market, addressing student needs in self-presentation, curation, advertising, and art event management. The course will accept up to twenty students, complementing existing Restoration and Fashion Design programs. Angelo Crespi, journalist and professor, emphasized that artists must understand market value mechanisms, and the curriculum includes workshops with international visiting professors. Ivan Quaroni, curator, highlighted the Beautiful Dreamers exhibition featuring Lowbrow Art and Pop Surrealism artists like Anthony Ausgang, Gary Baseman, and Zio Ziegler, whose mural is at Facebook's Menlo Park headquarters. Streetscape 2016 expanded from 10 to 14 artists, with major interventions by Paolo Ceribelli at Broletto, Giuseppe Veneziano at Teatro Sociale, Giulio Cassanelli at Villa Sucota, and Mr. Savethewall's Pinocchio sculpture in Piazza Cavour.
