Idris Khan Secures Abu Dhabi Memorial Park Commission with Plaza Design

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-20

Idris Khan, a British artist based in London, has been chosen to create a public monument for Abu Dhabi's upcoming Memorial Park. The government of Abu Dhabi selected his design from three nominees, as confirmed by his US dealer Sean Kelly. Construction on the park is scheduled to commence this year. The memorial will honor Emiratis who lost their lives while serving the United Arab Emirates. Khan's concept features a plaza-like arrangement with a sculpture made from metal panels and a reflective pool. An initial report incorrectly stated the shortlist contained four artists, which has since been amended to three.
