ICP Screens 'Spirit of the Photobooth' for Photobooth's 100th Anniversary

On the 100-year anniversary of the first photobooth, the International Center of Photography (ICP) will host the New York debut of the documentary 'Spirit of the Photobooth'. The film, written and directed by Sam Anthony, explores the history of the photobooth and the global resurgence of classic booths. Following the screening, a Q&A session will be led by ICP Creative Director David Campany, featuring director Sam Anthony and Sharon Josepho, granddaughter of photobooth inventor Anatol Josepho. The documentary highlights how the photobooth, once a ubiquitous fixture in Main Street, malls, bars, and railway stations, was nearly erased by smartphones and the selfie, yet has seen a revival. The event celebrates the enduring cultural significance of the photobooth as a photographic and social phenomenon.
