Ícaro Lira's First Solo Exhibition in France Explores Migration and Displacement
Ícaro Lira's inaugural solo exhibition in France, titled 'Leçons de la pierre,' is on display at Galeria Salle Principale in Paris until February 1, 2020. The exhibition, curated by Elena Lespes Muñoz, delves into themes of migration, displacement, and social control through a variety of collected items. This Brazilian artist incorporates materials such as stones, wood slats, paintings, trash, documents, press articles, audio interviews, and personal notes from his journeys across Brazil, São Paulo, London, Paris, Naples, and a village in Andalusia. The title is inspired by João Cabral de Melo Neto's 1965 poem 'A Educação pela Pedra.' Additionally, the show features two editions of A Folha de São Paulo from April 8 and October 29, 2018, which focus on Lula's arrest and Bolsonaro's rise to power.
