ICA Panel to Discuss Lawrence Alloway's Legacy with Getty Publication Launch
On November 16, 2015, the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) in London will present a panel discussion dedicated to the contributions of the late art critic Lawrence Alloway (1926–1990). Featured speakers include art historians Courtney J. Martin, Anne Wagner, and Victoria Walsh, alongside Mark Rappolt, the editor of ArtReview. This event coincides with the release of 'Lawrence Alloway: Critic and Curator,' authored by Lucy Bradnock, Courtney J. Martin, and Rebecca Peabody, published by Getty Publications in 2015. Alloway, a prominent figure in the 1950s London art scene and a key member of The Independent Group, later became the ICA's associate director. He is known for coining 'pop art' and promoting conceptual and feminist art during his tenure at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York. Tickets for the panel are on sale, and an excerpt from his 1960 piece 'Notes on Abstract Art' in Arts News and Reviews will provide additional context.
