ICA Miami Opens New Design District Headquarters During Art Basel
On December 1, 2017, the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami will officially open its new permanent location in the Design District, aligning with Art Basel Miami Beach. Established in 2014, the ICA previously occupied the Moore Building, a historic Art Deco site from the early 20th century. The new facility spans 37,500 square feet and was crafted by Madrid's Aranguren + Gallegos Arquitectos, with financial backing from collectors Irma and Norman Braman. It will host temporary exhibitions and a permanent collection featuring site-specific works by artists like Chris Ofili and Tomm El-Saieh. The inaugural exhibition, "The Everywhere Studio," showcases over 100 pieces from more than 50 artists, including Pablo Picasso and Roy Lichtenstein. Ellen Salpeter directs the museum, which aims to promote dialogue between contemporary and postwar artists. A solo exhibition of Tomm El-Saieh will also be displayed through February 2018.
