ICA London adds Wolfgang Tillmans, Delya Allakhverdova, and Maria Sukkar to governing council
The Institute of Contemporary Art, London has expanded its governing council with three notable appointments. Artist Wolfgang Tillmans, Russian collector and Contemporary City Foundation co-founder Delya Allakhverdova, and Lebanese patron Maria Sukkar have joined the institution's board. Sukkar serves on Tate's International Council and oversees the ISELF collection focused primarily on women artists. These appointments follow earlier leadership changes in 2017, including Stefan Kalmár becoming director in January, Katharine Stout assuming the deputy director role in April, and Richard Birkett's appointment as chief curator in May. The ICA is simultaneously launching The American Friends of the ICA patron program targeting collectors engaged with challenging art practices in the US and Europe. Director Stefan Kalmár stated these moves align with his vision to transform the ICA into a progressive, radical contemporary arts organization prepared for 21st-century challenges, emphasizing this need feels particularly urgent as the institution marks its 70th anniversary.
