Ibrahim Ahmed's First Italian Solo Show at Z2O Gallery
Ibrahim Ahmed's first Italian solo exhibition, 'Burn What Needs To Be Burned,' is on view at Z2O Gallery in Rome. The show, organized by Sara Zanin, results from two years of research into masculinity in contemporary societies. Ahmed deconstructs his body through collage, merging fragments of architecture, cars, and African cultural elements with his own physical geography to create metaphorical structures. The exhibition includes collages and photographs, opening with 'The Things I Hope To Bury,' a black-and-white photograph of the artist wearing a metal mask, which also appears as the sole sculpture on a concrete pedestal. The works explore the tension of contemporary men facing rigid social rules, as well as new hierarchical dynamics emerging from postcolonialism and multiculturalism.
