Ian Waelder's 'insert' at Modern Art, London

Ian Waelder, a Madrid native born in 1993, is showcasing his inaugural exhibition in London, titled 'insert', at Modern Art. This installation comprises three large paintings viewed from the rear, creating a corridor that disrupts the gallery's layout. The artworks draw inspiration from film stills, illustrating children around a tree while shifting the narrative from a car that belonged to his grandfather in Stuttgart prior to 1939. Additionally, a sculptural work merges air-dried porcelain with cardboard, featuring a shoe insert. His newspaper series incorporates perishable materials onto pages from German dailies. Waelder studied at Städelschule under Prof. Haegue Yang and splits his time between Mallorca and Frankfurt. Notable recent solo exhibitions include Es Baluard (2023-24), and he received the Kunststiftung DZ Bank Förderstipendium (2023-24).
