Ian Raposo Wins Novíssimos 2026, Solo Show at IBEU Gallery

award · 2026-05-12

Ian Raposo has been named the winner of the 49th edition of Novíssimos, a salon held in Rio de Janeiro, with the closing ceremony taking place on May 8. The prize includes a solo exhibition at Galeria de Arte IBEU, scheduled for September 2026. Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, Raposo studied at PUC-Rio and the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage, blending design and visual arts. His work draws on underground music, particularly punk and hardcore aesthetics, translating graphic aggression from posters and album covers into a distinct visual language. The IBEU Selection Committee described his work as "mature, consistent, and with a strong identity." Raposo began his career organizing group exhibitions in his studio building in São Cristóvão, later co-founding the space Virtua 3000 in 2024, which hosts studios and promotes experimental contemporary art outside traditional institutional circuits. In 2025, he participated in the Ateliê Aberto project during ArtRio, invited by Canal Curta! and Clear Channel, creating a live painting panel. The Instituto Brasil-Estados Unidos (IBEU), founded in 1937, continues its cultural exchange mission by supporting emerging artists like Raposo.
