Ian Macleod Distillers Launches Private Client Business for Rare Whisky Casks
Ian Macleod Distillers, a family-run firm overseeing the Rosebank, Tamdhu, Glengoyne, and Laggan Bay distilleries, has introduced a Private Client Business that specializes in rare whisky casks. This new division offers access to sherry casks from Tamdhu dating back to the 1960s, along with some of the final casks from Rosebank prior to its closure in 1993 (the distillery reopened in 2024). Additionally, bourbon and sherry casks from Glengoyne, distilled from the 1970s onward, are available. Clients can also acquire new make spirit casks from Laggan Bay, which started production in spring 2024, and enjoy early access to limited-edition bottles and single cask releases. William Ovens, head of Private Clients, noted the focus on fostering long-term relationships and providing exceptional whisky access, including exclusive experiences at the currently closed Tamdhu. Stuart Hendry, Private Client director, emphasized the benefits of buying directly from the distillery owner for transparency and provenance. Despite challenges in the whisky industry, there are still opportunities for rare acquisitions.
