Ian Curtis exhibition in New York features Joy Division lyrics and ephemera

exhibition · 2026-05-07

Voltz Clarke Gallery in New York will host 'Ian Curtis: Insight', the first major US exhibition dedicated to the Joy Division frontman. The show draws from the British Pop Archive at The John Rylands Library in Manchester, UK, and includes handwritten lyrics for 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' and 'She's Lost Control', intimate photographs, letters, and other ephemera. Curtis, who died by suicide at age 23 in 1980, is remembered as a seminal figure in post-punk. The band formed in 1976 after Bernard Sumner and Peter Hook attended a Sex Pistols concert, and also included Stephen Morris. After Curtis's death, the remaining members reformed as New Order. The exhibition runs from June 25 to July 22, 2026, at 195 Chrystie Street, New York.
