I Suoni delle Dolomiti festival marks 30th anniversary in Trentino mountains
The festival I Suoni delle Dolomiti, held in the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites of Trentino, celebrates its 30th edition from August 27 to October 4, 2025. Founded by Paolo Manfrini, the festival reverses the traditional stage-audience relationship, making the mountain landscape the protagonist rather than a backdrop. Artistic director Mario Brunello, a renowned cellist, has led the festival since 2022 but has been involved as an artist and staff member from the start. The festival promotes sustainable tourism and features a diverse program spanning jazz, classical, ethnic music, and singer-songwriter performances. Special projects include an opera at altitude. For the 30th anniversary, highlights include a premiere with Alessandro Baricco and Diabolus in Musica, a new female vocal trio Le Scat Noir selected via a competition in Manfrini's memory, a dawn concert with Wu Wei, and a closing trilogy of concerts themed around Europe and Val di Fassa. The festival collaborates with local partners including the SAT, Trentino Marketing, and MUSE – Museo delle Scienze di Trento. A manifesto outlines the unique conditions for artists, who must hike with their instruments and adapt to natural elements.
