I'm Back Roll APS-C Kickstarter Raises $850,000 for Digital Film Roll

The I'm Back Roll APS-C, a digital film roll for analog cameras, has raised nearly $850,000 on Kickstarter, far exceeding its $44,603 goal with 17 days remaining. The project aims to place a 26-megapixel Sony IMX571 APS-C sensor inside a film-roll-shaped module that fits into 35mm film cameras from brands like Canon, Nikon, Leica, and Fujifilm. Unlike previous I'm Back products that required bulky external attachments, this version integrates power and storage into the roll itself. CEO Samuel Mello Medeiros says a working prototype with a Micro Four Thirds sensor has been tested for a year, but the final APS-C version is not yet built. The company expects a fully functional prototype within six months after the campaign closes, with shipping planned for August 2027. Optional add-ons include an external battery hub, a 2.5-inch touchscreen display, and a wireless remote control. I'm Back has delivered on past Kickstarter campaigns, including the I'm Back Pro (2018), I'm Back 35 (2020), and I'm Back Film with Yashica (2024). The company used AI for some marketing materials and acknowledges that some product images are computer-generated. Over 1,400 backers have pledged support, demonstrating demand despite the risks inherent in crowdfunding.
