Hyundai and Volkswagen unveil next-generation compact electric vehicles with contrasting design approaches
Hyundai has expanded its Ioniq lineup with the new compact Ioniq 3, featuring an 'Aero Hatch' design with faceted bodywork and impressive aerodynamics. Volkswagen presents the Neo version of its ID.3 electric hatchback, representing the third iteration of this model with substantial visual updates. The Hyundai Ioniq 3 achieves a projected WLTP range of 308 miles in Long Range configuration with a 61kWh battery, while the Volkswagen ID.3 Neo offers up to 390 miles with its largest 79 kWh power pack. Both vehicles feature button-driven interiors alongside large infotainment screens, marking a shift toward analogue controls in digital vehicles. The Ioniq 3 provides 441 litres of boot space compared to the ID.3 Neo's 385 litres, despite being substantially lighter at 1,580 kg versus 1,966 kg. Volkswagen's updated model introduces Connected Travel Assist with traffic light recognition and external device charging capabilities. Hyundai's design emphasizes interior space through its kicked-up rear and shallow rear window configuration. Final pricing and availability for both models will be announced soon.
