Hyperpavilion to Debut at Venice Biennale with Digital Art Focus
The upcoming Venice Art Biennale will feature the Hyperpavilion, a sprawling exhibition spanning over 3,000 square meters across three spaces in the Arsenale. Curated by Philippe Riss Schmidt, announced at a press conference in Hong Kong, the show will present new works by 11 international artists: Aram Bartholl, Vincent Broquaire, Claude Closky, Frederik De Wilde, Labnt2, Lawrence Lek, Claire Malrieux, Thé Massoulier, Julien Prévieux, Paul Souviron, and Theo Triantafyllidis. The exhibition includes site-specific commissions exploring art's transformation in the digital age, featuring hologram theaters, immersive 360° cinema, giant projections, and multi-screen installations. Riss Schmidt described it as "a spectacular post-techno-human immersion" and declared "Welcome to the era of the electronic Renaissance." The project risks appearing naive given decades of new media art experimentation since the 1970s.
