Hypermaremma Returns with Massimo Uberti Neon Installation in Tuscany

festival-fair · 2026-04-27

The second edition of Hypermaremma, a festival conceived by gallerist Giorgio Galotti (founder of DAMA in Turin) and Carlo Pratis (founder of Galleria Operativa in Rome), opens July 26, 2020, in the Maremma region of southern Tuscany. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the program has been reduced to a single site-specific neon installation by artist Massimo Uberti, titled "SPAZIO AMATO," located at Terre di Sacra within the WWF-managed Lake Burano nature reserve in Capalbio. The work is visible from the road, on foot, by bicycle, and from the train, and will be illuminated nightly from 6:30 PM to 12:30 AM until September 15, 2020. The organizers describe the piece as a poetic, evanescent apparition that invites solitary contemplation on the relationship between humans and landscape, emphasizing "loved" spaces during a time of social distancing. The first edition in 2019 featured three chapters across six moments with numerous artists from April to September. This year's scaled-back approach aims to send a signal within the WWF oasis.
