Hypermaremma Returns for Fifth Edition with Expanded Program and First Permanent Work

festival-fair · 2026-04-26

Hypermaremma, the diffuse festival bringing contemporary art to the Maremma region of Tuscany from April to October, returns for its fifth edition under the curatorial and organizational team of Giorgio Galotti, Carlo Pratis, Matteo d’Aloja, and Beatrice Benella. The festival continues its collaboration with Sotheby’s, which will auction limited-edition reduced versions of artists' works in September at the Circolo della Macchia. This year's edition focuses on social impact, with partnerships including Dropbox, Artshell, and the Milan electronic music festival Terraforma, which will curate a concert by Charlemagne Palestine at the Ferriera di Capalbio on May 13. The festival also announces its first permanent work: a monumental ceramic fountain by Giuseppe Ducrot, 15 meters long and 4.5 meters high, to be installed at Terre di Sacra. The program runs from April 8 to early October, with monumental works from previous editions by Claudia Comte and Giuseppe Gallo remaining on view until September 15. Highlights include Virginia Overton's 'Tulip' (from the 2022 Venice Biennale) opening April 8 in Orbetello; Felice Levini's intervention at the ancient Etruscan city of Cosa in Ansedonia on June 17; Carola Bonfili's video 'Second Order Reality' (winner of the Italian Council grant) on September 22; and performances by Parasite 2.0 and Alice Ronchi. The festival is structured like a startup, with d’Aloja emphasizing that the first five years are critical for growth.
