Hussein Sharif's 'Re-framing Reality' at Cultural Foundation Abu Dhabi

The exhibition 'Re-framing Reality' at the Cultural Foundation Abu Dhabi showcases over 40 years of work by Emirati artist Hussein Sharif, a member of the pioneering 'Five' group. Curated by Aysha Al Hemeiri and Zuhoor Al Sayegh, the show runs until 1 September 2024. It features paintings, drawings, collages, found objects, and installations from the early 1980s to the present. A major installation, 'Cement Web' (2001), consists of cement blocks, half untouched and half cluttered with everyday items, commenting on the UAE's changing landscape. Sharif's work often uses repetition and raw materials to critique consumerism and urban development. The exhibition also includes archival material such as art pamphlets from the 1980s and 90s.
