Humus Residency Artists Reinterpret Rural Heritage at Torre di Mosto

exhibition · 2026-05-05

In the flat, reclaimed borderland between Veneto and Friuli known as 'sprofondo Nord,' the Humus Interdisciplinary Residence, founded in 2015 by artist Marco Maria Zanin with curator Carlo Sala and Michele Romanelli, has brought four artists to Torre di Mosto. The project focuses on reviving rural traditions and memories. Artists Federica Landi (Rimini, 1986), Victor Leguy (São Paulo, 1979), Pedro Vaz (Maputo, 1977), and Zanin himself respond to the Museo del Paesaggio and Museo della Civiltà Contadina, which house over twenty thousand functioning artifacts. Vaz presents two films: one a drifting camera on the Livenza River, the other an elevated view of the same site. Landi encases objects in ice blocks, then partially excavates them to create new forms. Zanin decontextualizes farming tools, photographing them in arrangements inspired by primitive and sacred art museums. Leguy's DeMuseo project invites community donations of objects to build an affective archive that strengthens local identity and social cohesion.
