Humpback whale 'Timmy' found dead in Denmark after German rescue
The humpback whale known as 'Timmy' that captivated Germany after beaching on a sandbank on March 23 was found dead off the Danish island Anholt on Thursday. The whale had been released into the North Sea on May 2 following a costly and controversial rescue operation involving a barge. Danish authorities confirmed the identity via a tracking device still attached to the carcass. Jane Hansen, division head at the Danish Environmental Protection Agency, stated that the device's position and appearance confirm it is the same whale handled in German waters. The carcass was spotted in the Kattegat strait between Sweden and Denmark.
