HUMANS video portrait series explores contemporary society through art

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The HUMANS project, curated by Giovanni Viceconte, presents a series of video art appointments exploring contemporary society through the lens of the Covid-19 pandemic. Each installment is identified by a keyword, such as Malessere, Lockdown, Transiti, [In]esistenza, [S]Laccio, Stigma, Densità, and Legami. The eighth installment, Legami, features works by Cosimo Terlizzi, Davide Sebastian, and Debora Vrizzi. Terlizzi's video Fratelli Fava examines the complex bond between physicality and intellect, set to music by Christian Rainer. Sebastian's video portraits the Gao brothers (Gao Zhen and Gao Qiang) in an ancient Roman cistern, exchanging symbolic objects. Vrizzi's Family Portrait depicts her family blowing dust off her body at a dinner table, exploring familial ties. The project began during the pandemic's isolation, reflecting on new behaviors and amplified thoughts. Terlizzi, born 1973 in Bitonto, has exhibited at Centre Pompidou, MAMbo, and MACRO. Sebastian, born 1981 in Rome, has shown internationally. Vrizzi, born 1975 in Cividale del Friuli, has exhibited at MAXXI and MACRO. The series is featured on Artribune TV.
