Human Exhibition in Rome Explores Technology and Humanity
The exhibition 'Human' at Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome, originally conceived at the Science Gallery of Trinity College Dublin and curated by Cathrine Kramer, incorporates contributions from the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona and the Fondazione Mondo Digitale. The Roman section, titled 'Umano, sovraumano?', is curated by Valentino Catricalà. The show features works that examine the intersection of technology and the human body, including Stelarc's 'Third Ear' implant, Regina José Galindo's video of a surgeon mapping cosmetic surgery incisions on her body, and Neil Harbisson's skull antenna for color perception. Nikolaus Geyrhalter's video 'Our Daily Bread' documents industrial animal slaughter, while Cao Fei's video portrays workers at an Osram factory in China. Italian artists include AOS (Salvatore Iaconesi and Oriana Persico) with 'Ghostwriter' on digital traces, NONE with 'J3RR1', Donato Piccolo with latex and aluminum cyborgs, Quayola's digital transformation of Rodin's 'The Thinker', and Paolo Cirio's 'Obscurity' blurring mugshots to protest online surveillance.
