Human Architecture: Social Media Data Art at Venice Biennale
At the 2018 Venice Architecture Biennale, the Fondazione Alberto Peruzzo presented 'Human Architecture', a project by artists Salvatore Iaconesi and Oriana Persico of the research center Human Ecosystems Relazioni (HER). The work collects public conversations from Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram in 54 languages, transforming them into visual and sound installations. The data is anonymized and released as open data. The exhibition features three video visualizations: 'Architecture' shows conversation themes as 3D structures; 'Influences' explores correlations and mutual influences between topics; 'Idiomatics' focuses on languages and interaction intensity. The project is supported by the European Commission's STARTS program and curated by Marco Trevisan. It aims to make data visible and understandable, promoting a people-centered approach to technology and information.
