Hula's Street Art on Sky Arte's MURO Series at Porto Cesareo

On August 1, 2018, Sky Arte's series MURO features Hawaiian street artist Hula creating a mural in Porto Cesareo, on the Ionian coast, within the only state marine reserve in Salento. The mural is painted on a concrete canal bank where it meets the sea, appearing as if the subject is submerged in water. Hula, known for painting while floating on a surfboard, creates large-scale female portraits. The work became a happening for early-season bathers, prompting reflection on public art as a driver of tourism in Salento, where culture and environmentalism have already proven economically beneficial. The reserve's goals include marine conservation, socio-eco-compatible development, and environmental education.
