Huis Marseille Marks 25 Years with 'Memento' Photography Exhibition in Amsterdam

exhibition · 2026-04-19

Huis Marseille, located in Amsterdam, is marking its 25th anniversary with the exhibition titled 'Memento. Photography, interrupted,' which will be on display until 12 October 2025. This exhibition showcases more than 100 photographic pieces from the museum's collection, housed in its historic 17th-century canal residences at Keizersgracht 401 and 399. Established in 1999, Huis Marseille originated from Jos de Pont's private collection, emphasizing photography from Dutch, South African, and Japanese artists. Exhibition designer Philip Lüschen employs glass easels by Lina Bo Bardi to craft installations reminiscent of a museum depot. Featured artists include South African photographers David Goldblatt and Zanele Muholi, along with Dutch female photographers like Dana Lixenberg, prompting reflections on photography's significance in a post-pandemic world.
