Hudson Yards megaproject advances in New York despite delays
The Hudson Yards project on the West Side of Manhattan is making headway, although the initial phase is now anticipated to finish six months later than originally planned. A subsequent phase is scheduled for 2025. This expansive 45-hectare area is overseen by Related Companies, under the leadership of Stephen M. Ross. Marking the largest private development in U.S. history since Rockefeller Center, it encompasses over 18 million square feet of both commercial and residential space, featuring 100 retail outlets, 4,000 housing units, The Shed cultural venue, 14 acres of public parks, a school, a luxury hotel, and dining options from chefs Thomas Keller and Kenneth Himmel. Notable architectural firms involved include SOM, KPF, and Diller Scofidio + Renfro. The Vessel, designed by Thomas Heatherwick, is set to debut in spring 2019, and the entire project is projected to add $19 billion to New York's GDP each year.
