Hubert de Givenchy's Collection to Be Auctioned by Christie's in Paris

market-auction · 2026-04-27

Christie's will auction over 1,200 lots from the collection of the late fashion designer Hubert de Givenchy, spanning furniture, sculptures, and paintings by French and European masters, classical, modern, and contemporary artists. The live sales take place in Paris from June 14 to 17, with an online sale from June 8 to 23, 2022. The auction coincides with the 70th anniversary of Givenchy's first haute couture collection presented on February 2, 1952. The collection originates from his iconic residences: Hôtel d'Orrouer in Paris and Château du Jonchet in the Loire Valley. Givenchy, who served on Christie's International board, previously consigned objects from his collection. Now his family returns to Christie's to celebrate his exceptional taste and that of his partner Philippe Venet. Highlights will be announced in spring and exhibited in a global pre-auction tour including Paris, New York, Palm Beach, and Hong Kong. Givenchy (1927-2018) was a leading fashion figure known for his elegance and Grand Goût français, dressing icons like Jackie Kennedy and Audrey Hepburn. Born in Beauvais in 1927 to an aristocratic Venetian-origin family, he moved to Paris at 17 to study fine arts and later established his maison at rue Alfred de Vigny in 1952. His passion for art, objects, interior design, and gardening was a natural extension of his fashion work, seeking harmony between architecture, decoration, and color.
