Hotel Julien reopens in Antwerp after complete makeover
Hotel Julien in Antwerp has reopened following a full renovation led by founder Mouche Van Hool, interior designer Bea Mombaers, and architect Peter Ivens. The hotel occupies two adjoining 16th-century townhouses near Groenplaats in the Old Town. The redesign aims to restore the original intimate, homely atmosphere, using materials like wool, stone, and timber, with custom furniture. The bar features restored wood interiors and serves local De Koninck beers. The rooftop terrace offers views of the cathedral. Lighting by PS Lab is deliberately low. The breakfast room serves pastries from Dôme. The spa in the former cellar includes a sauna, hammam, and hot stone seat. The 21 rooms use linen, marble, and timber, with categories like Dreamer, Experience, and Experience Terrace. Rooms include books on Belgian design, Serax ceramics by Vincent Van Duysen, and Aesop products. The hotel originally opened in 2004.
