Hotel Indigo Dubai Downtown Opens with Pop Khaleej Art Collection

architecture-design · 2026-04-22

IHG Hotels & Resorts opened its first Hotel Indigo in Dubai Creek in October 2020, the city's first boutique hotel. The 269-key property merges mod and Arabesque aesthetics with a Pop Khaleej energy, drawing inspiration from the Creek's history as a trading post. Over 200 artworks by UAE-based and international artists are curated in collaboration with Alserkal Cultural Foundation, Tashkeel, XVA Gallery, and Opera. Artists include Baseem Rayyes, Fadi Sarieddine, Studio MUJU, Rand Abdul Jabbar, Daniel Wegera, and Refik Anadol, who created 3D data sculptures for his regional debut. Each floor rotates a single artist's work. Design references include mother-of-pearl bathrooms (pearl-diving heritage), Christian Lacroix-designed entrance arch at Open Sesame, and rugs from the Fatima Bint Mohamed Bin Zayed Initiative. The hotel positions itself as a cultural connector, with interiors reflecting local neighborhoods.
