Hospital del Mar Phase 2 Expansion by PINEARQ and Brullet-De Luna

The Phase 2 expansion of Hospital del Mar, which spans 27,286 square meters, was completed in 2025 in Barcelona. This project, crafted by PINEARQ and Brullet-De Luna Arquitectes, is situated near the seafront promenade, Ronda Litoral highway, railway tracks, and Barceloneta. The site presented several challenges, including a single access point, an eight-meter deep water table, and the need to keep hospital operations running during the construction phase. The timeline was accelerated by six months due to Next Generation EU funding, prompting a shift from in-situ concrete to prefabricated elements. The facility is built to be resilient against future health emergencies. Key architects include Albert de Pineda, Raúl García, Manel Brullet, and Alfonso de Luna, with engineering by PGI Engineering and project oversight by RQP arquitectura.
