Horst Antes at 90: Dual Exhibitions in Hannover

German artist Horst Antes, born in 1936, is celebrated with two concurrent solo exhibitions in Hannover marking his 90th birthday. Galerie Koch presents "Horst Antes: Exhibition Marking the Artist's 90th Birthday," while the Sprengel Museum Hannover hosts "A Collection," featuring about 80 works from its holdings. Antes is recognized as a pioneer of New Figuration in Germany, known for his "Kopffüßler" (Head-Footer) character—a solitary or paired figure in profile with exaggerated nose and single or multiple eyes, set in surreal landscapes. The Galerie Koch show includes paintings like "Figur mit weißer Gesichtsmaske" (1972) and sculptures such as "Kleine Figure II" (2004–05), alongside his "House Pictures"—architectural depictions with unstable perspective and textural color fields, exemplified by "Grau, Haus weiss" (2014) and "Three Houses" (1998/2000).
