Hoor Al Qasimi to Direct 2026 Biennale of Sydney

Hoor Al Qasimi has been named the artistic director for the 25th Biennale of Sydney, scheduled from 7 March to 8 June 2026 (with updated dates of 14 March to 14 June). As the President and Director of the Sharjah Art Foundation, she will engage with local communities, artists, and scholars to shape the event's concept. Al Qasimi’s curatorial approach focuses on the histories of locations, multidisciplinary initiatives, and innovative practices. She highlighted Sydney's rich multicultural essence and its commitment to showcasing varied viewpoints while elevating Indigenous narratives. Since establishing the Sharjah Art Foundation in 2009, she has directed the Sharjah Biennale since 2002 and curated its 2023 edition. Additionally, she has held the presidency of the International Biennial Association (IBA) since 2017 and leads The Africa Institute and the Sharjah Architecture Triennial. Furthermore, she has been appointed artistic director for the upcoming sixth Aichi Triennale, set to launch in 2025.
