Hoor Al-Qasimi to Curate 2025 Aichi Triennale and 2026 Sydney Biennale
Hoor Al-Qasimi, president and director of the Sharjah Art Foundation, will serve as artistic director for both the 2025 Aichi Triennale and 2026 Sydney Biennale. Her upcoming project in Aichi, titled 'A Time Between Ashes and Roses,' references a poem by Syrian writer Adonis and features over 60 artists examining environmental degradation. The triennial unfolds across venues including the Aichi Arts Center, Aichi Prefectural Ceramic Museum, and Seto City locations. Al-Qasimi's curatorial debut in Japan marks the first time a non-Japanese individual leads the event, now in its sixth edition. She recently completed the 2020 Lahore Biennale and 2025 Sharjah Biennial. In a June interview with ArtAsiaPacific, she discussed her approach, which connects artists, audiences, and environments. The triennial focuses on human-nature relationships and sociopolitical urgencies.
