Hoor Al Qasimi Curates UAE Pavilion at 2015 Venice Biennale with Historical Focus on Emirati Art

Hoor Al Qasimi is overseeing the UAE pavilion at the 2015 Venice Biennale, located in the Arsenale, with her exhibition titled '1980 – Today: Exhibitions in the United Arab Emirates.' This display features 15 Emirati artists, such as Ahmed Al Ansari and Abdul Qader Al Rais, and explores the progression of contemporary art in the UAE over the past 40 years. Al Qasimi underscores the importance of a diverse narrative and recognizes the Emirates Fine Art Society, established in 1980, as crucial to the local arts scene. Her extensive research involved archives and interviews that documented the origins of conceptual art. Reflecting on her inaugural Biennale experience in 2003, she considers her current role a privilege. The exhibition will later return to the UAE to promote engagement and assist emerging curators through internship opportunities.
