Honor Launches AI-Powered Robot Phone with Gimbal Camera in China

Honor has introduced its AI-enhanced Robot Phone in China, which incorporates a retractable motorized gimbal system for its primary camera. Priced at 9,999 yuan (approximately $1,500), this device aims to provide cinematic stabilization alongside AI-assisted subject tracking. Initial reviews from PetaPixel and The Verge commend the gimbal's performance, with Dominic Preston from The Verge remarking that it surpasses expectations for a phone gimbal. Honor partnered with Arri, the renowned cinema brand, to enhance the phone's color science and image processing, featuring Oscar-winning cinematographer Claudio Miranda to demonstrate its potential. The main camera includes a 200-megapixel sensor with a Type 1/1.28 image sensor and f/1.6 lens, complemented by a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto and a 50-megapixel ultrawide. It captures 4K video at up to 120p and 1080p at 240fps, and boasts a 6.3-inch OLED display with peak brightness of 6,800 nits. Operating on Android with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, it is available in 512GB and 1TB options. Honor CEO James Li emphasized that the partnership with Arri integrates "cinematic standards and professional workflows into mobile imaging." Additionally, the gimbal can automatically combine nine images for panoramic views. An international release date remains unconfirmed.
