Hong Kong Spring Exhibitions Feature Yang Fudong, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Xiyadie, and Factory of Tomorrow Show
M+ presents Yang Fudong's architectural film 'Sparrow on the Sea' (2024) on its facade from March, a black-and-white work shot in Hong Kong that references 1970s-80s cinema and the SAR's history. Inside the museum, Apichatpong Weerasethakul's multichannel video installation 'Primitive' (2009) runs through 9 June. Blindspot Gallery hosts Xiyadie's solo exhibition from 26 March to 11 May, featuring homoerotic papercuts begun in the 1980s, with the artist previously showing at New York's Drawing Center in 2023 and heading to the Venice Biennale. Wong Kit Yi's solo '+852 GHOST-JPG' at PHD Group from 23 March to 4 May includes the video essay 'Dial 432 to See the Light' (2022–24), created during a residency at The Chinati Foundation in Marfa, exploring themes like immigration and burial practices through screen paintings and silkscreen prints. CHAT's 'Factory of Tomorrow' exhibition runs through 14 July, featuring 19 artists of East and Southeast Asian heritage, including Ade Darmawan, Yee I-Lann, Ho Rui An, and Yuki Kihara, addressing diversity and climate change. These shows coincide with Art Basel Hong Kong, with UBS and Art Basel collaborating on Yang Fudong's project.
