Hong Kong's Tai Kwun Heritage and Arts Center Announces May 2018 Opening

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-20

Tai Kwun – Centre for Heritage and Arts will launch in Hong Kong during mid-2018 following receipt of required permits and certificates. The project transforms the former Central Police Station complex into a cultural destination through a phased opening strategy. Swiss architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron designed the new art gallery and auditorium structures within the site. This revitalization represents Hong Kong's largest heritage conservation initiative, covering 13,600 square meters with 15 historic structures and three declared monuments. The Hong Kong Jockey Club leads the development in collaboration with the Hong Kong government. An official ceremony is scheduled for May 25, 2018, preceding a soft opening with restricted visitor access. Program details will be released shortly by the institution.
